The school is popularly known for its academic excellence facilitation for young ones. There is this celebrated assertion that goes; ‘education is the key’, which literally means, a man’s success is strongly determined by his utilization of education. This can’t be really debated because everyone who got the chance to be educated is utilizing his knowledge to make a living for himself, meaning education is the main transitional instrument from childhood to adulthood.
To focus on maximization, Withope Foundation believes that, the school could yield several different purposes in addition to its traditional academic excellence agenda. School is a place that nurture’s children to adulthood, and so it is not only about academics but also includes lifestyle cultivation.
For this reason Withope Foundation coined a project under Public Health called Withope School Health Service, which aims at engaging school authorities to plan their semesters together by assigning times for us to engage students with health education. Drug Abuse, Adolescent Reproductive Health and even several chronic conditions like Hypertension and Diabetes all need to be spoken about in schools by professionals to help students make informed decisions in their life choices.
The inspiration to this agenda is that, we have come to realize that, so many health problems come out of our odd lifestyles such as eating habits and others, therefore the main preventive measure is equipping people with preventative knowledge. This will then make them soldiers of their own lives and will bear the responsibility of living a healthy life. Ignorance has contributed to so many health problems and is time to find a solution to this.
By so doing, we realized that, there is no better place to execute this educative agenda than the school since that’s a designated venue for teaching and learning. This led my NGO to agree with the Kwabre East Education Directorate on 2nd March 2022 to commence this vital humanitarian agenda, just to be disturbed by relocation as a result of government postings, which the necessary authorities weren’t ready to grant me a reposting to maintained me at Kwabre East to make this policy achieve its 100% efficacy. However, we made an impact.
We continued in Obuasi East where I was posted to and connected with the education directorate once again. Overall, we have engaged couple of schools despite the inconveniences in the Ghanaian system and we aim to continue being impacted in this regard. Withope School Health Service has come to stay.
